NEW YORK CITY, NY

I went to New York City a couple of times during my travels in the United States. The first time was when I was 20 and I came only for a short visit during the summer. I liked the city, but the infamous city did not strike a chord with me the way that I expected it to based on everything I’d heard. I preferred discovering authentic small towns or other cities, like San Francisco, which I immediately fell in love with.

That being said, my perception of the Big Apple changed when I came by myself and lived there for a few months. I lived in different hostels in Chelsea, at the top floor of a brick apartment in the heart of the Greenwich Village, and for several months in Bushwick, Brooklyn. This time allowed me to discover the real New York City, with all the eccentricity, independence, and excitement I needed.

Hands on my camera, I spent every minute photographing as I strolled through the streets or walked to work. The city is by itself a kind of theatrical performance that changes each day:

There are many different people, with many styles and constantly changing emotions varying from laughter to tears. I enjoyed capturing this variance the most, as well as photographing the magnificent buildings and countless skyscrapers that towered all around me. At certain times, I felt as though I was able to see New York City as it once was through the lens of my camera.

I loved making my way though this urban jungle, whose musical personality continuously rumbles to the heartbeat of the city’s soul.
